Eligibility

All IBM Business Partners who are members of the IBM PartnerWorld Program - Registered, Silver, Gold or Platinum - are eligible to submit a nomination for an IBM Beacon Award.

IBM reserves the right to decline any IBM Beacon Award nomination from any Business Partner who is not in good standing with their IBM PartnerWorld or IBM Business Partner agreements.

Guidelines

  1. A complete award nomination must include BOTH a nomination form and a client reference. The one exception to this is the Digital Marketing Excellence Award which does not require a client reference.
  2. The nomination form and client reference must be submitted in English. [Please note: the solution may be developed in any language, but the entry itself must be submitted in English.]
  3. The IBM Business Partner solution must have a starting implementation date AFTER September 11, 2017 in order to be nominated for an IBM Beacon Award.
  4. Solutions that have been recognized as an IBM Beacon Award winner in either 2017 or 2018 are not eligible.
  5. Solutions that have been recognized as a Watson Build Winner are not eligible.
  6. Solutions recognized as IBM Beacon Award winners, PRIOR to 2017, can be nominated under the following conditions: 1) The solution has been significantly enhanced since September 11, 2017 to take advantage of new technologies; 2) The solution has been enhanced since September 11, 2017 to provide additional functionality or services to the client; and/or 3) The client reference must be DIFFERENT than the client reference submitted with the winning nomination.
  7. The same solution can be submitted for multiple award categories, however, a DIFFERENT client reference must accompany each submission.
  8. At least one of the client solution implementations, included on the nomination form, must be submitted as a client reference.
  9. The name and title of an authorized representative from the IBM Business Partner must be included in the nomination to demonstrate the company’s consent for the submission.
  10. IBM employees nominating an IBM Business Partner solution must provide the name and title of an authorized representative from the IBM Business Partner company as proof of identity and consent to the nomination.
  11. Government Entities, as determined by IBM, are responsible to confirm their participation and confirm their ability to accept the award benefits received during this initiative will not violate any local laws, rules, regulations or the internal rules and regulations of their company. Such confirmation must be provided as requested by IBM.
  1. Your client must agree to be a reference for IBM. If your client is not willing to be contacted by IBM with a request to be used in a reference situation, please do not use them. Also, please ensure there is no agreement in place which prohibits the disclosure of submitted information (e.g. considered a trade secret or prohibited by a Nondisclosure agreement).
  2. The reference must be approved for external use with either clients and/or other IBM Business Partners.
  3. After the judging is complete, all submitted client references will be moved into the standard client reference process for review and posting to the IBM Client Success Central review process. Learn more.
  4. Client references that are currently published in the IBM Client Success Central can be used to complete your award nomination, as long as, the original publication date is September 11, 2017 or later.
  5. Client Permission Agreements are required for submissions for clients located in Germany and Italy; and clients located in France, Belgium or Luxembourg for IBM Global Technology Services – Infrastructure Services solutions. Learn more about agreements.
  6. Client references may be submitted for verification to satisfy the PartnerWorld program Gold and Platinum level criteria. The client reference must document your solution using at least one currently marketed IBM technology. To request verification, answer "Yes" to the "Verification Request" on the client reference submission form AND answer all required questions.
  7. IBM may not be used by an IBM Business Partner as a client reference.
  1. Nominations should not include any information considered confidential to you or any other party.
  2. All submitted nominations are considered final. Without exception, nominations saved as draft and not submitted by November 13, 2018 at 5:00 PM EST (New York) will not be judged.
  3. Improperly submitted or incomplete nominations will not be judged.
  4. IBM’s decisions are final. IBM reserves the right to modify or eliminate categories and the stated procedures and/or criteria in whole or in part at any time without notice.

Outstanding Analytics Embed Solution

This award recognizes an IBM Business Partner who most effectively delivers an integrated analytics Embedded Solution that includes one or more IBM Analytics offerings.

An Embedded Solution is where a partner has developed a unique solution with IBM technology, and commercially marketed the solution to their down-stream customers. The solution is the combination of IBM products/offering(s) and Partner's value-added Intellectual Property (IP) that when working together, create a commercially available Business Partner branded solution that is distinct from the IBM offering(s). ESA is not to be confused with resell as the IBM offerings cannot be separated from the Technology Partner branded solution or service. The winning solution must include one or more software offerings from the IBM Analytics portfolio:

Hybrid Data Management, Unified Governance & Integration, Data Science, Business Analytics, IBM Cloud Private for Data

What we look for in the winning solution:

  • Embeds products from the IBM Analytics portfolio with Business Partner developed solution capabilities that are delivered on premises and/or on cloud.

  • Provides clear description and value of how the embed solution utilizes IBM Analytics technology.

This award recognizes an IBM Business Partner that offers the most outstanding cloud service or solution built and deployed on the IBM Cloud platform using IBM Cloud infrastructure and platform services. The service or solution provider, ISV, or integrator should be considered an innovator in the cloud computing space and be recognized for the value-add their solution brings to the market, whether as a new offering or as an existing offering transformed successfully to the cloud. The ideal candidate for this award should articulate how developing and delivering their offering with the IBM Cloud Platform enabled them to deliver new or increased benefits to their clients and drive demonstrable business outcomes.

This award recognizes an outstanding IBM Business Partner who has put Smart to Work with intelligent collaboration by weaving a layer of intelligence into work - to get better results faster. The winning solution should include one or more product(s) from the IBM Collaboration Solutions portfolio and address a specific customer business need(s.)

What we look for in the winning solution:

  • Examples of how IBM Collaboration Solutions have been used to create and share content, interact and converse, drive actions, and connect apps.
  • Examples of how intelligent collaboration has changed the way work gets done.
  • Examples highlighting the overall business value of intelligent collaboration with documented, quantifiable business results.

  • Helps organizations retain and grow top employees with personalized career development.
  • Measures traits, skills, and culture fit of each candidate and employee.

This award is for the IBM Business Partner who has demonstrated the ability to generate opportunities with new or existing clients by executing multi-touch integrated campaign(s), including social and digital tactics such as:

  • Being visible on the web where the target audience looks for information.
  • Ensuring the web site is strong, clear, current and search-optimized (and that it has the ability to capture prospects).
  • Using social media properties to blog, tweet, post client offers.
  • Investing in web banners or paid media/search.
  • Focusing campaigns on the Business Partner’s high-value solution that includes IBM technology.
  • Personalizing the tactics to specific personae, buyer profiles.
  • Using IBM marketing materials, campaigns, tools and/or approved marketing agency assistance.

Additional criteria:

  • Success is measured by the impact of the campaign. Include all quantitative data (e.g. Web visits, responses, validated leads, win revenue, new clients acquired).
  • All validated campaign leads and wins must be entered into IBM MySA for review by the Beacon Award judges.

  • It has a unique brand identity which is different from the IBM solution.
  • It drives incremental revenue for IBM.

Particular consideration will be given to those solutions which incorporate multiple IBM Security products.

This award recognizes an innovative IBM Business Partner who has proven success developing a solution which incorporates an offering(s) from the diverse portfolio of IBM Global Technology Services. The winner must demonstrate they teamed with IBM Global Technology Services and delivered exceptional client success by using a product offering from one or more of the following IBM Services areas: Business Resiliency Services, Hybrid Cloud Services, Digital Workplace Services, and/or Network Services. The winner of this award must demonstrate how their firm integrated an IBM Services offering(s) within their solution and delivered new or increased benefits to their client(s). The winning Business Partner will be recognized for their best-of-breed technology leadership, high level of technical and solution selling skills, quality business processes and consistently high client satisfaction.

The winning solution must include the following characteristics:

  • Must contain at least one offering from the IBM Global Technology Services' Infrastructure Services portfolio.
  • Drives tangible business value to the client and to IBM's and the Business Partner's revenue growth within Services.

This award recognizes innovative IBM Business Partner-led solutions which capture and extend the quality and excellence of IBM Technology Support Services (TSS) across the diverse portfolio of IBM TSS offerings. Business Partners should consider client success stories which include competitive IBM Logo win-backs and Multi-Vendor Hardware/Software maintenance.

The winning IBM Business Partner will be recognized for their best-of-breed technology leadership, high-level technical and solution selling skills and consistently high client satisfaction. Special consideration will be given to those nominations demonstrating a Business Partner’s ability to solve client challenges and create repeatable solutions to manage complexity while reducing risk with IBM Technology Support Services, particularly within multi-vendor support environments.

Most Innovative Client Experience on IBM Z

This award recognizes the IBM Business Partner that delivers the most innovative solution on IBM Z while deploying an excellent customer experience, enabling digital business transformation and driving growth through modernization. The nominating Business Partners should illustrate how their solution delivers excellence and business value by exploiting the capabilities of IBM Z to drive client success.

Winning solutions should include one or more of the following:

  • Demonstration of significant business growth: based on innovation enabled by the implemented IBM Z solution through capability, agility, performance or scale.
  • Winning with Security and Trust: with improved SLAs, data security policies, solutions to meet regulatory or compliance needs, or competitive wins based on system security features, pervasive encryption and trust investments of IBM Z.
  • Improved efficiencies with a trusted private, public or hybrid cloud: to improve economics, quality of service and speed to market.
  • Contemporary utilization of analytics or machine learning: with right-time analysis of mission-critical data to gain competitive advantage, improve efficiency and/or improve customer experience.
  • Improved speed to market with Dev Ops and or Open APIs: presenting higher quality enterprise applications faster by utilizing IBM Z with its modern development tools and processes to drive business transformation.

Most Outstanding Enterprise Linux Solution on IBM Z or LinuxONE

This award recognizes the IBM Business Partner that delivers the most outstanding solution for enterprise Linux leveraging IBM Z or LinuxONE.

The winning entry will articulate how the solution provides new levels of client differentiation and increased business value in one or more of the following areas:

  • Utilization of Linux on IBM Z or LinuxONE servers for modern workloads that demand security, speed, availability, and scale such as Blockchain, digital commerce, healthcare, banking, and supply chain; designed to support a clients’ competitive advantage.
  • Improved economics, improved resource utilization and increased simplicity through server, systems, or database consolidation.
  • Business changing actions using Linux on IBM Z or LinuxONE to drive IT disruption with hybrid Cloud, advanced analytics, deep learning and AI.
  • Growth in customer landscape using Linux on IBM Z or LinuxONE servers to penetrate new or competitive client accounts, or for Cloud Hosting or MSP Hosting to bring new customers and new workloads onto the platform.
  • Expanded utilization of Linux and open source solutions to tap into the potential of the open ecosystem for improved speed to market.

  • Open to System Integrators, Solution Providers, ISVs and MSPs who have participated in solution development and deployment at a client site.
  • Solutions outlining specific client benefits and measurable returns on investment will be key in judging.

Outstanding Software Defined Storage Solution

This award recognizes an IBM Business Partner that offers the most outstanding Storage solution or service built on IBM Software Defined Storage.
The winning submission will show how IBM Storage Software delivered new or increased benefits to customers and drove demonstrable business outcomes. It should be able to articulate how the Business Partner created and delivered an innovative Software Defined Storage solution to their customers using IBM Spectrum Storage or Cloud Object Storage offerings.

What we look for in the winning solution:

  • Integrates IBM Storage Software with the Business Partners own solution capabilities.
  • Provides clear descriptions of how the solution utilizes IBM Storage Software and (optionally) Storage Systems.
  • Focuses on solving an infrastructure or business problem.
  • Includes demonstrable, proven, pre-built components or assets that can be applied to deliver repeatable business value.
  • Extra credit will be given to solutions supporting AI, Cloud or Multi-Cloud solutions.
  • Extra credit will also be given to solutions that have displaced competition and/or are being marketed today as repeatable offerings.

Outstanding Solution Driving Client Innovation and Transformation with IBM Power Systems

This award recognizes the IBM Business Partner that has achieved outstanding results in deploying an IBM Power Systems solution which helped their client transform their IT infrastructure to resolve business challenges and gain a competitive edge.

What we are looking for in the winning solution:

  • Demonstrated capability to support open source solutions, cognitive infrastructures and architecture.
  • Delivered measurable value to the client's business while overcoming market and competitive challenges.
  • Inclusion of Power Systems software. (i.e. Power AI, Power AI Vision, PowerVM, PowerHA, PowerSC, PowerVC, etc).
  • Demonstrated capability for repeatable implementation.
  • The following solutions will be given special consideration:
    • Innovative solutions that optimize Power Systems infrastructure in new and creative ways.
    • Cognitive infrastructure solutions that include deep learning, machine learning, and AI.
    • Solutions that integrate strategic Linux on Power ISVs such as MongoDB, EnterpriseDB, Neo4j, Kinetica, Redis Labs, Hortonworks, Nutanix, etc.

  • Some examples might be:
    • Delivering IBM All-Flash platforms to address your customers' most demanding performance requirements.

This award recognizes an IBM Business Partner that has most effectively developed and deployed a repeatable line-of-business or industry solution to deliver tangible business value for the client, has executed demand generation activities, developed and progressed new opportunities, and generated revenue growth for IBM and the Business Partner.

Here is what we look for in the winning solution:

  • The solution uses Watson Financial Services Solutions software, integrated with unique value-add Business Partner IP as part of the repeatable solution offering.
  • The nomination provides a clear description of how the on-premises, cloud, or hybrid cloud solution delivers business value and ROI outcomes.
  • The solution includes demonstrable, proven, pre-built components or assets which can be applied to deliver repeatable business value.

  • Provides clear descriptions of how the solution utilizes weather data, insights and/or solutions to help clients make better decisions and take action to drive better business outcomes in the face of weather.
  • Includes demonstrable, proven components or assets which can be applied to deliver repeatable business value.
